Sword Play Activities for Scouts and Guides.

Sword Play activities fit perfectly into an evening's meeting whether it is for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies or Guides.  Our sessions encourage quick thinking, hand-eye co-ordination, team work and concentration, not to mention being physically very active! The equipment we use is very child-friendly and safe, specifically designed for use with youngsters. (Full kit is also available - please see below!)
So far we have successfully run activities for several groups including Brownie meetings and pack holidays, Guides, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Beavers. The sessions are run in a similar way to our birthday parties (so please do have a look at our parties page for more information!) but can also be tailored to fit into your meeting time, or include any specific games or other requests.

If you wish, games can be organised so that the sixes or patrols can work as teams; this can work especially well when it comes to the battles - a real tournament experience!

 

Older children - You may wonder whether the foam swords and plastic masks are too 'babyish' for older age groups. The equipment was originally designed by a fencing manufacturer to enable children as young as 6 to learn fencing. However it has been successfully used by myself and others with older children and even adults for a one-off, fun session. The fact that it is so safe means we can do away with all the normal protective clothing normally associated with fencing, and we can very quickly get down to the business of having a go!

Real 'Full' Kit- If you would like to introduce your members to some 'real' fencing that is also possible. As I am a fully qualified coach I can lead a more formal fencing session if you prefer, although numbers may be limited.
