Sword Play activities for schools |
|||||
| What does
Sword Play Offer? Whether you simply need an assembly speaker or an all day fencing activity, Sword Play can meet your requirements. In the past schools have booked us for fetes, classroom activities to fit in with a specific topic, as an introduction to new sports during health week, and even as a fun reward for a hard working junior council! |

| What
equipment do you use? It is possible to book either our foam swords or full fencing kit depending on your requirements. Our foam equipment is very safe ~ specially designed swords and plastic masks are used to teach the fencing, and the children wear tabards as a target area. All the equipment is either red or blue so the children can easily identify their team mates. Our 'real' kit is fully certified, clean and carefully maintained. |

If booking a whole or half day, a mixture of both sets of equipment can work particularly well. Younger groups may find it easier and quicker to use the foam foils, while older groups of children enjoy the challenge of fencing in full kit. |
||||
What space do you need? Use of the school hall or gym is recommended - you can then bring groups in to follow immediately after each other. this means that all equipment is ready to hand and reduces wasted time. As a guide 45 to 50 minutes is needed for each group to make it a worthwhile experience. |

Who runs the Sword Play activities? Tina Staples B.Ed(hons) is an ex-primary school teacher, now working full time as a fencing coach and entertainer. She has been fencing herself since she was 11 and is still competing in the open competition circuit. She has a level two British Fencing Association coaching award, child protection training, public liability insurance and holds a recent CRB clearance certificate. |

||||
How are the sessions organised? Our activities can be very flexible to suit your needs. The foam swords can be used for a fun 'party type' session or for more formal fencing with young children. The full kit can only be used by children aged 7+ and is obviously only suitable for a more formal (but still fun!) fencing session. |
